10 Reasons My Blog is Suffering

1. My summer class ended last week and I had to read 25 research papers (I was glad for the other 10 that dropped! Yeah, my class should scare you.), grade finals, and submit grades.

2. Drew has had a GREAT week. For that I am so thankful. But it seemed like whenever Jake went down for his nap, Drew was up from his. I am looking forward to his schedule becoming a little more consistent so I can avoid that!

3. Our church had their annual children’s consignment sale (Little Lambs). If you recall, this was major last year. Major enough to evoke feelings of stress and competition in me I never knew existed. This time I was a little more laid-back being an old pro and all, but also because we cannot fit more toys in our house at this time. Jake played with friends and I strapped Drew on as he witnessed his mother run around like a maniac. Hey, I got Christmas presents for both boys and some shoes for Jake.

I’m already plotting my purchases for next year!

After about 10 minutes of crying that his mom took him shopping, the little guy zonked out!

4. This doesn’t have anything to do with it, but look at my (little) big boy!

I kinda feel like he got that look from me.

5. One of Drew’s new best friends, Bailey Ann, was born! I suppose I really can’t blame my lack of posting on her, but it sure is easier to cast the blame, right? :)

Sweet girl was born last Monday! We are so excited for Kyle & Jessie and their beautiful little girl!

6. I have not one, but two online classes starting tomorrow. So I have been busy setting everything up, writing quizzes & tests, and getting familiar with our new textbook (annoying). And best part is…as of tonight I have not one, not two, but 68 students enrolled.

Sixty-eight.

I am so blessed to be able to do this from home, but sometimes some personal office space would be nice.

7. Seth started back to school last week and we are so excited for him to finish his LAST semester. Hallelujah!

8. Basically when I have free time, I don’t want to blog. Sorry. However, I have become shamelessly obsessed with Keeping up with the Kardashians this weekend. Quality Christian TV. I barely knew who any of them were, but now I am hooked!

9. Um….

10. I can’t think of a 10th reason either, but it really bugs me to end on 8.

Life with 2 kids sure is a lot busier!! I feel like I am constantly going. I cannot WAIT for another month or two when Drew will be going to bed around 7 or 7:30 and we can actually have our evenings back! (Sorry kid)

Giddy Up!

Jake loooooves his friends. He talks about them all the time…probably second most to trucks and choo choos! :) Everytime I tell him we’re going to church, he starts naming all his little pals and is always so excited to see them!!

Blake and Jack came over to play last week and they were cracking me up. For kids that don’t like to share, Jake and Jack wanted to go “horseback riding” together.

I told Jake to hold on tight…

He had a death grip on Jack’s waist! I thought it was too funny. He kept burying his head in his shoulders.

They will kill me for that picture in 13 years…

Best buds!

We decided to try the same move with Blake…

(He still prefers to ride alone)

Jake and the future Mrs.

(She probably won’t be able to wear heels at the wedding)

These two love each other. Everytime they’re together, they just say each other’s names over and over. Lexi is always hugging on him and let’s just say…he tolerates it. But the girl says “jump”, and he says “how high?”. I need to learn some of her tricks!

Boys Will Be Boys

Well, there may be several posts coming. I just loaded about 200 pictures on the computer so I am a tad backed up!

I am so blessed that Seth is such a great daddy! He is a HUGE help in the evenings. It seems like I’m always having to feed Drew when Jake is getting ready for bed (convenient, eh?) so Jake and Daddy get lots of quality time.

Crazy-haired Jake making a scary face! After bath they usually roughhouse and make all sorts of loud noises. The perfect types of activities to get him winded down for bedtime. :)

Daddy reading the boys a book. This is one of those rare occasions when Jake is ok with his brother being in close proxemity to him!

Jake is figuring out that we say “cheese” when we take a picture. He loves to say cheese and then look at the picture on the camera. I was taking these the other night and had no idea he was smiling but I thought this was so cute!

Mr. Smiley, as (almost) always!

We are a big fan of bubbles over here.

Now before you start feeling sorry for Jake in the next picture, let me preface this with saying that he is mad about the band-aid, NOT about his boo boo!

He fell and scraped his forehead on the driveway last week. He got a good little strawberry and since it was bleeding I got out a Buzz band-aid. It lasted about 3.4 seconds before Jake ripped it off. Tough guy.

If Drew is awake, he gets to play “night night” with us! Jake cuddled up next to him while we were playing before naptime.

And…since it’s 128 degrees outside…why not play with our mittens?? He has discovered his drawer of winter clothes and we dress up in mittens, hats, and coats. It’s so refreshing in August…

Hopefully this means less fighting over clothes come winter!
Always the helper. Stopping the swing to wake up his brother and offer Drew the paci he doesn’t want…

I can’t wait to see the fight over the Exersaucer next month…

I love these boys so much and am so thankful to be home with them right now!

Grandparent Love

A couple weekends ago (I know, I’m behind people), the kids were lucky to see lots of grandparents! Let’s go in reverse order…

Nonnie (maybe Mimi now) and Popo with their 2 grandsons. They brought Seth’s Granny up for the afternoon to meet Drew and I remembered to get the camera out this time!

Popo and Drew. Such a cute picture!

Granny rocking with Drew. This is her 5th great-grandchild! I can’t imagine having grandchildren, let alone great-grandkids!

Grandpa also came and spent the weekend with us! Jake had soo much fun bossing him around. Drew probably would’ve too, he just hasn’t caught on yet :)

Playing play-doh after church. We should probably move this activity to the table but someone (Daddy) showed Jake how to play on the kitchen floor and have I mentioned my oldest child doesn’t like change?

Grandpa hanging out with Drew
So glad to have some grandsons I’m sure after raising 3 daughters!

Reading books before bed.

Our boys are so lucky to have such wonderful grandparents that care so much about them! It’s always nice to get a little break and not have to occupy the kids 24-7. :) And the excited look on their (well, Jake’s) faces when they see Nana, Grandpa, Nonnie, & Popo are just priceless.

Jake – 22 Months Old

Jake,

You are 22 months old. Otherwise known as…ALMOST 2!!! I can’t believe it. I used to think 1 year was old…ha. You were just a baby. :)

(p.s. It’s really throwing me off that you and your brother were born on the same day of the month…I even just double checked with Daddy. Forgive me.)

You are really starting to warm up to your little brother. You don’t like it if he is getting more attention than you…but seem to think he’s ok if he just lays there and watches you play. You also let him sit next to you on the couch or in “your” chair which is big because nobody else is allowed to do that!!

I tried everything I could to get you to smile. You couldn’t take your eyes off Buzz. Drew was loving sitting next to his big brother though!

You are independent, fearless, goofy, bossy, sweet, strong-willed, and serious. I think a lot of those qualities contradict each other! You are happy most of the time and we are lucky that we haven’t had huge discipline problems yet.

HOWEVER.

When you throw a tantrum, you throw one good. You do NOT give in, give up, or become easily distracted.

For example.

Last week you were eating Raisin Bran as a snack. You ran out of the raisins so I put some dried cherries in there instead. You were fine eating them but when I added more, I guess I didn’t put them in there the “right” way. You went ballistic. Your Daddy and I spent the next HOUR of our lives trying to calm you down. We had multiple trips to time out, pops, and flat out screaming. We finally had to resort to setting up the pack and play and leaving you in there until you could calm down.

An hour.

Luckily those sorts of things happen once every blue moon. Luckily.

You love to read books. Here you’re brushing up on sleep training techniques for brother. I’m sure you’ll be a great help! Some of your favorites are “The Ear Book”, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”, “Mr. Brown Can Moo”, and your Toy Story books.

You also looove the TV. You run straight to the recliner in the morning so you can watch Mickey or Jake and the Neverland Pirates. You also love Thomas the Train, Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, Letter Factory, and basically anything else that’s animated! You get so excited that you can’t decide what you want to watch. You’ll ask me to watch Buzz, and as soon as it starts, you say, “Nemo??” and run to get the Nemo DVD. I think your dream would be a movie that contained Buzz, Woody, Nemo, Mater, Lightning McQueen, and some singing letters. :)

You’ve started to notice when you have to “poo poo”. I know this isn’t a good picture but one afternoon after your nap you got mad when I went into your room and kept saying, “Nooo, poo poo!”. When you got out of your crib, you ran to the front door, knelt down, and proceeded to do your business…HA! I guess you weren’t ready for me to get you out of your room yet.

You are going to be such a good big brother! I can’t wait to see you and your brother running around together. I pray that you both grow up to love the Lord. I pray every night for your future wives…that God is working in all of your lives! It’s just crazy to think about but I know the next 50 years will go by so fast!

Were you planning on getting married before that?

I think you get jealous sometimes that Drew gets so many “toys”. I’ll occasionally find you in the swing or bouncy seat trying to see what they’re all about. I think we’ll have a little more drama when Daddy gets out the Exersaucer!

You love Play-Doh. Love it. And really, love is an understatement. We probably play with Play-Doh 15 times a day. We pretty much make baseballs, dogs, and snakes. You shriek with excitement when you see the containers!! It’s helped so much with learning colors. You are able to put the Play-Doh back in the containers and match the correct color top with the correct color Play-Doh. We are so proud of you!! You can point out all the colors, but mostly say “black”, “blue”, “purple”, and “pink”.

You also can identify some letters. Tonight I drew an “A” on the side of the bathtub and you said “Ah!”. Then I did an “S” and you made the “Ssss” sound! Talk about proud. You really pick up on more than I thought.

I mentioned your favorite book was “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. You were “reading” it in the car the other day and fell asleep holding on to the open book. Just precious.

You call the camera “cheese” and are constantly handing me the camera saying, “Cheese mama?”. You are putting together so many phrases and talking so much. You say things like, “Baby bath!” or “Daddy go bye bye?”. I can’t possibly write down all you’re saying but it makes my heart melt. Earlier today, Tucker sneezed and you said, “Bless you!”. I couldn’t believe it! You also like to tell the dogs “hush” or “no no no!”
Did I mention that you like Play-Doh? :)

Jake, I know I’m forgetting so much but I had to write this down before we got to your 2nd birthday. It’s hard to believe that you still have so much to learn in the next couple of months. I can’t wait to go back and read this post to see how much you have changed. You are such a sweet little boy and love your family, your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends. You get SO excited when you see everyone. I love watching you play with your friends. This time next month you will be in preschool (well technically, Mother’s Day Out) two days a week and I know you will have so much fun! You crave structure and I think it will be so good for you.

We love you so much and can’t wait to celebrate your 2nd birthday in October!

Love,

Mommy & Daddy
