Merry Christmas!

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

   Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the greatness of his government and peace

   there will be no end.

Santa’s Wonderland

On Wednesday evening, we made an impromptu trip to Santa’s Wonderland in College Station.  Now, if you know us at all, you know that doing things “on a whim” is not how we work!  So we were pretty proud of ourselves for throwing caution to the wind and loading everyone in the car.

Fast forward 2 minutes.

Crying for “mommy’s house”.  Screaming baby.  More crying for “mommy’s house”.  Crying for “Santa’s house”.  Little feet kicking the back of my seat.  Mommy telling Daddy to turn the car around.  Mommy climbing in backseat to entertain children.  Screaming baby not caring.  Yelling at everyone that we are HAVING FUN WHETHER WE WANT TO OR NOT.  Mommy telling Daddy to turn the car around.  Daddy refusing to turn the car around.

Fast forward 90 minutes.

Arrive at Santa’s Wonderland where everyone was HAPPY (well, Drew you were indifferent but not screaming so yea!) and drank some hot chocolate.
We took the kids on the hayride to see all the lights.  I don’t think they’ve changed anything up in the past 10 years!  With as much as Jake has loved Christmas lights on our street, we figured he would go nuts.  Well.  He went nuts alright.  But not over the bajillion lights.  He was most excited about the truck that pulled our hayride.
Good thing his ticket was free.

What’s a Christmas light display without a little Aggie spirit?

Poor Drew was a good sport.  He was exhausted because he hadn’t napped well that day (or in the car, if you recall), so he just took everything in from the comfort of our arms!
Family picture in front of the big Texas flag.  I’ll be honest and let you know I almost wrote American flag.

It’s hard to see, but right when you walked into Santa’s town there was snow falling.  Jake was too upset about having to wear a coat so I’m not even sure he noticed.
Also.  In an attempt to commit highway robbery, they found the need to charge extra for the petting zoo and pony rides.  I feel like we just went on a family vacation!  Jake was begging to ride a pony.  Begging.  So being the irresponsible parents we are, we didn’t have any cash and had to hunt down an ATM machine to get $5 for this dang ride.
Remember.  He wanted to ride the pony.
Pictured:  Jake not wanting to ride the pony.
He cried the whole time.  And when we were done, he said, “More?”
No more.  Our last name is not Trump.

But I have a feeling we will be going back for more hayrides next year.  I mean, look at that sweet boy.  To make matters worse, Drew will be walking.  Drew will actually almost be the age Jake was when he was BORN.
Good thing next year is a long time away!

A Visit to Santa’s House

(Well, I’m not super positive it was Santa’s house, but that’s what Jake kept saying so we’ll run with it.)

On Saturday morning we finally had our much overdue visit with Santa.  I was afraid lines would be long so we headed to Old Town Spring as soon as Santa opened for business, and waited to see the big guy.

Also, I’m not sure why I keep calling him the big guy, because I’m pretty sure that’s GOD, but just run with that too. :)

Daddy and Drew were super excited to wait in line!
The first of many Santa pics.  I went ahead and cropped out Seth because the picture already looked awkward.  Jake was excited to see Santa, but not to sit in his lap!  This may have been after the candy cane so he was a little happier!  Drew was just happy because someone wanted to hold him.
Hugs from Lexi.  The girls were in line behind us to see Santa and as you can see, we clearly could not compete with their Christmas tutus!
Jake, Lexi, and Macie peeking in the window to Santa’s “house” as we were waiting.  I think this helped them get a little more comfortable before we went in there.  The people in front of us brought their dogs to see Santa…3 years ago I would’ve been right there with them but this time I thought it was a little ridiculous.  Ha!
Family picture in front of the big Christmas tree.  Have I mentioned that I love all 3 of my boys??
And this one takes the cake of course.  I had to buy the professional picture because we may never top this.  Santa grabbed him right away and Jake was (obviously) not happy about it.  Sweet little Drew just watched.

I can’t believe Christmas is almost here!  We have a couple more fun activities to do this week and then I know the boys will be super excited to open their presents and celebrate with everyone.  I have been amazed that Jake hasn’t messed with any under our tree.  I’m not quite sure he realizes they are for him yet.  He is going to love Christmas morning!

Jake’s Christmas Program

This past Wednesday,Jake’s preschool put on a little Christmas program. His class dressed up as angels, some were shepherds, and others were stars. We nearly ruined the morning by oversleeping (when does that ever happen in our house, right???)because we’d had a bad night with both boys. I guess it’s acceptable to sleep in until 8:30 if you’re up at 4! The program started at 9 so Seth hurried to get Jake ready and at school and I fed Drew and moved with lightning speed to get there in time!

Oops. We’ll go ahead and set our alarm for next year’s show. :)

We were so proud of how well he listened to his teachers and followed instructions. As you can imagine, this was near Broadway-calliber, so attention to detail was very necessary.

Herecomes Jake’s class walking down the aisle. He was supposed to wear a white shirt and the school provided the wings and halo.  Can you tell which kid refused to wear his wings and halo??

Here they are walking in. It was so cute.  We were sitting on the aisle and Seth was afraid Jake would get upset if he saw us.  But he passed us with our cameras and waved, came and gave me a hug, and got right back in line!  What a sweet boy.

They sat up front and rang bells to Carol of the Bells.  Look how good they’re all ringing! :)  He is sitting next to his “girlfriend” Reagan, of course!
Drew enjoyed watching his brother’s performance! In a couple years, they’ll both be doing it!  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though...

After each class sang a song, they all sang Happy Birthday to Jesus.  Everyone clapped afterward and Jake got a big kick out of it and started clapping and waving. What a ham.  They did such a great job!   We definitely didn’t expect Jake to do as well as he did (sorry, but it’s true).  I was afraid the crowds would scare him but he was an old pro.

I am so proud of Jake because “Baby Jesus” is on his mind a lot these days!  I know he’s too young to possibly fathom the incredible sacrifice God made for us (I still can’t fathom it), but I hope Jesus remains in the forefront of his mind for the rest of his life.

We sang This Little Light of Mine in church this morning and even though it’s a well-known children’s song, it’s never been so applicable to me.  Sometimes our world can be so dark…a world full of hatred, greed, selfishness, human trafficking, stealing, abortion, starving children, and many other unimaginable things…yet God sent His one and ONLY son to die for US.  He thought we were worth it.  He wanted His light to shine in our world and I pray my boys learn to walk in that light daily!

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…

Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky…

6 Months Stats

Before I forget, Drew had his 6 month check up last week and was…

14.3 lbs (5th percentile)
26.25 inches (30th percentile)
HC: 17 1/4 in

My tall skinny boy!

Also, I will just add that we are BACK on Prevacid again. After all the uncontrollable screaming last week, the doctor suggested we get back on his reflux meds and use them for a couple more months. I also cut out applesauce for now because he was eating a ton (I didn’t realize they were acidic) and not getting medicine and I think it put him over the edge. Literally a happier baby over night. We are so glad to have our smiley (and sleepy) Drew back!

Be on the lookout for more blog posts soon. I know I am behind and don’t want to wait until after Christmas…

Terrible Case of the Terrible 2′s

The title about sums up our week.

This has easily been the most exhausting week of having two children. I think we have averaged roughly 3-4 hours of sleep each night because Drew has been up screaming (like…can’t get him to stop screaming for hours and hours and hours) and Jake has been acting like…well, a 2 year old.
Por ejemplo:
We finally got Drew to sleep around 10pm last night. He woke up again screaming at 2am and cried and cried until 4:30 when he finally went back to sleep. Then I hear, “MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA MAMA!” over the monitor. Based on the intensity of his screaming, I assumed Jake was being attacked by rabid dogs and ran to his room. He simply said, “All done.”
As in “All done with sleep, Mommy.”
At that point, I gave him the look of an estranged crazy woman and put him back in bed.
He even got in trouble at school today and I had to stay and talk to the teachers about it. Break my heart! He was sent to time out and then got in trouble because he talked back to them and threw a tantrum on the floor instead of standing in time out.
As his teacher said, “I think he finally came out of his quiet shell today!”
I would say I am looking forward to 3, but word on the street is that it’s worse.
Bless our hearts!!! :)

6 Months Old

Drew,

You are SIX months old! I am begging you to stop growing now and stay this little and sweet forever! You are such a happy little boy. Always smiling and laughing at us…most of the time at least. But let’s not forget your testy little temper! As Daddy once said, “Jake screamed a LOT more than this but Drew can scream louder than any baby I know!”
Lord help us in another 18 months! :)
At 6 months old you:

- wear size 2 diapers (about to move to 3′s)
- wear 3-6 month clothes
- weigh about 14.5 pounds. Your check up and shots are tomorrow so I’ll get the official stats then.

- love being on your tummy

Because how else are you supposed to crawl around??
You heard me right.
You are moving and grooving. You army crawl all over and definitely get where you need to go. And look how well you’re sitting up on your own!

- Have started eating veggies and fruits and LOVE them. This is where the screaming comes in. If I wait 4.5 seconds instead of 2 seconds to give your next bite, you lose it. I’m sorry, but sometimes I just get distracted!! I call you my hungry monkey because you can put down some food. You have tried:

-rice cereal, baby oatmeal, peas, green beans (don’t like them), carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas, peaches, and applesauce. You easily eat more than Jake ever did as a baby. In fact, you probably eat more than he does now!
- have started experiencing some separation anxiety. You have not taken the last 2 bottles you’ve had (let’s work on this PLEASE), and will fuss if someone else holds you besides me. I do love this but occasionally I have to cuddle with your brother or use the restroom!

- are starting to push up on all 4′s and rock back and forth. Today you scooted your legs forward in a crawl but didn’t know what to do with your arms and crashed on your face. Insert extremely high-pitched scream!

- still have no teeth. But look at that drool!
- just got over your 2nd ear infection and I am hoping you get a clear report at the doctor tomorrow.
- have stopped taking your reflux meds – yea! This was actually by accident because I realized I’d been forgetting to give it to you. But you’ve done great and aren’t spitting up anymore either.

- can almost take a bath with your brother! That will be so much easier. You’re doing great at sitting up in the baby bathtub and really love your bath!
- are sleeping 12-13 hours at night (7-7 or sometimes 8am) and take 2 naps during the day. Sometimes we have to squeeze in a 3rd if you get up extra early but it’s getting harder and harder to do that.
To sum it all up, you are perfect! We are so lucky to have you in our life. I can’t believe in another 6 months we’ll be celebrating your 1st birthday!
Love you Drewbie!

And here’s Jake at 6 months old…I barely remember this! Break my heart, where did that little baby go?!

So…this Happened.

The consequences of not napping for a week (Jake’s choice, not mine) were setting in around dinnertime tonight. The following took place:

Jake: AGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!! (Noises occurring while throwing tantrum on kitchen floor. There was no apparent reason for this tantrum)
Mary: Good job, Drew! Yum yum sweet potatoes! (Ignoring tantrum)
Jake: AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!! (Insert several wall kicks with tennis shoes on. Hitting the wall. Stomping on ground. Screaming. All very 2 year old-esqe)
Mary: JACOB GARRETT ANDERLE. IF YOU KICK THAT WALL ONE MORE TIME, YOU WILL MAKE BABY JESUS AND SANTA VERY SAD. I WILL PERSONALLY TELL SANTA TO TURN THAT SLEIGH AROUND AND NOT GIVE YOU ANY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. HE WILL GIVE ALL THE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS TO DREW.
What happened next folks, is no lie.
Jake: Ok Mommy. (Walks to chair, sits down, and puts a fish stick in his mouth).
I’m not sure what is worse. The fact that I implied Baby Jesus and Santa Claus as a team or the fact that he apparently understood the threat of no presents.
Things can only look up from here…right?
Right?

Brotherly Love

Have I mentioned that I just love my little boys?? We’ve had so much fun lately. Jake is really getting into the Christmas season…it amazes me how much he has learned. He can tell us all about shepherds, angels, baby Jesus, Santa, reindeer, Christmas trees…and on and on and on. And this is only at 2. I think he will be talking about Christmas for awhile!

The boys have been so sweet to each other. It’s like Jake just woke up one day and thought, “Hey, I love my brother!!”
It’s about dang time.
Jake “shares” his toys with Drew and of course Drew wants nothing to do with the baby toys. He’s always got his eye on a tractor, monster truck, or car. They’re all boy, that’s for sure! I’ll have more about Drew in his 6 month post but let’s just say I can’t keep up with that kid. He is on.the.move. Seeing as how Jake didn’t crawl until almost 9 months old, this has thrown us for a loop!

I thought this was hilarious and had to get a picture. Poor Jake had no clue he looked like a little plumber the other morning! :)

This is, hands-down, one of our favorite toys. Jake loved it as a baby and now again as a toddler! And of course it’s a big hit with Drew. I highly recommend this Fisher-Price Singing Stage!
Jake has been really good at becoming more independent but moments of jealousy still strike when he’s not the center of attention. One night during dinner, Seth was holding Drew and Jake kept looking longingly at them from his chair. When I got him out, he ran to Daddy and wanted to be held too. Never mind that he wasn’t listening, but it was pretty cute.

Love my little Drewbie!

I mean, come on, right?? I was SO happy when Jake wanted to hold Drew last week. Honestly, this is one of the first times he’s shown interest in holding his brother. THIS is the picture I was hoping to get in the hospital. Nearly 6 months later, I suppose it will have to do! Just melts my heart and Jakes sweet grin cracks me up!

Love Drew’s face. Jake kept cuddling him, kissing him, and saying “more!” These mouth kisses are probably how we spread all our germs…

…and Drew finally had enough kisses!
